I think that trail cams and radios are illegal in Idaho as well. There’s a lot of variation in the hunting regulations across the continent. For example, in Ontario, we can’t have a loaded firearm in a vehicle or discharge from a vehicle; no big deal elsewhere. Same thing with having to encase your firearms after sunset; no big deal elsewhere. Things that make you go hmmm.

Makes sense both of Ontario rules.
Yet-like in Alberta,You do not need to encase Your firearm at all(plus-so they claim, no issue with it).No orange either.
At the other hand-they do not allow shooting from 50 y from an ATV.............or ,they do not allow(makes sense)to carry a firearm on an ATV ,till noon.

From a privacy perspective, alone,it wouldn't break my heart to see them banned here, either. Big Brother is everywhere. It would be nice to ,at least,be able to head for the woods without being on a camera somewhere.

As to reason given to the ban, i think the ban is justifiable

I hunt public land and a couple of years ago I found a stand with a note by the base of the tree. It said "smile, you're on camera. There is also one on the walk in and at the parking area". This didn't bother me too much except for the parking lot. I looked for them but didn't any. It might have been BS. Funny thing is I've hunted this woods for 20 years and found lots of stands and ladders yet I've never heard of one being stolen from there. TC

In the woods I hunt, people have a real problem with them. They don't make any bones about it,either. Most of the time, they just remove the SD cards and leave the camera where they found it. Some folks, though, will not only take the SD cards, but, they simply smash the cameras to pieces and leave them as a message. I don't think these folks are anti hunters, per se,just incensed at being photographed and having their privacy invaded and may even be members of the criminal element up to no good. Hunters placing their cameras need to be sure that they're well concealed.

Imo trail cams are useless unless used for bear. Not once have I taken a deer off what a trail cam told me. The trail cam would show me they're coming in the morning only for them to not show up and vise versa.
As for those that classify trail-cams as "cheating". There are plenty of things that give you WAY more of an edge than a trail cam. Does a trail cam really give you more of an advantage than using a rifle or baiting??

If you can find a use for a trail cam with bear, I'm a bit puzzled you can't find it useful for deer.
One real useful thing I find is it lets you know when you put too much heat on a spot. Deer are there but not in daylight hours.
It also lets me avoid hunting a spot that's went cold.
And when you're thinking about sleeping in on Saturday near the end of the season and you get a pic of the big buck that you thought must have been shot or left the country...
