Red face Finally made it out for my first bear hunt!

So this weekend we made it up to camp to do some work and I was also going to do some bear hunting, we arrived Friday evening at around 5 p.m. as soon as I pulled in the driveway my phone goes off, and it’s my cell cam telling me there there is already 2 bears at my bait, which kind of changed my plans a bit. I didn’t want to walk in and spook them so I decided to not go out that evening, and do a bit of work with the guys. Saturday we worked on the camp all morning and afternoon but I got out to my stand around 4. At about 7:15 I had a sow and 2 cubs come in, obviously I decided to pass and just enjoyed watching them. They were there for about 15 mins or so when I think the sow seen me in my stand and decided she was going to come and check me out, I let her get about 12 ft from the bottom of my stand before I decided to let her know she was to close! Lol. It was an awesome experience non the less! And I can wait to be back out there next weekend! Lots of different bears coming in now!

Definitely true. I use the same corn bait for deer as for bear, works well on both usually. We get bears and deer on the same bait locations often within minutes of each other. Once had a young buck and a young bear together on the same camera.

I have a mix of deer/bear and moose hitting my mineral sites and was thinking of putting a bear bait up. I would try and keep the bait away from our deer stands as far as I could of course. This particular property is 100 acres or so, would that be too small of an area? With scent of bait and more frequent bear activity there, would it spook the deer to much? Thanks guys
Nope, no problem there. Bait away. It's really just when there are young fawns that does will be wary of bigger bears. This time of year we see all kinds of animals using the same baits often within minutes of each other. Bears, deer, moose, foxes, raykins.

Well if you put deer bait out ... the bears will come haha. We are having that "issue'' currently with the black bears laying on the deer bait and just having a day with it lol. Try mineral licks + scents, bear will eat anything the deer will as far as bait other than mineral licks.. I can't say that for sure but I've never seen a black bear go to a block. I'd even suggets getting a scent bag (beaver) for the black bear, but like others have said if the bear is hungry it will eat that deer bait.
I say "issue" because we will have bear tags while deer hunting and will eliminate only if they lay down and just have a day with our bait haha.

    Good luck have fun!
