Russia
Something that’s been going on for awhile now but not really in the forefront of discussions is Russia’s renewed boldness. I’ve read a few stories now on Putin’s romanticism of the “old Soviet days”. Apparently he’s got troops on the Ukraine border just stationed and waiting. He’s been reaching out to former satellite states to help them economically or politically. He’s pushing all the right buttons with NATO and the west. I wonder if it’s all just about chest pounding or is he prepared to invade Ukraine again.

Of course they are going to attack, they smell blood in the water as they watch western countries being attacked by their own governments. The Russian army has been deployed in Kahzakstan since Monday after the citizens overthrew their government forcing their Prime Minister and President to flea the country.

Has too much time on their hands
The Russians moved fast, especially when they see a longer term possibility of influence.

If China and Russia want to move now is the time with sleepy Joe at the controls - Russia wants the Ukraine and China wants Taiwan - they got to move now or they will miss the opportunity - there will be a lot of hollering and sanctions but they can weather it and end up what they want - but when you get right down to it - so what -

Friends of our just returned from visiting family in a small town near Kiev. That's all everyone is talking about. The general consensus is that it's going to happen sooner rather than later. The stated goal of the Putin regime is to return Mother Russia to her former greatness. In most other former SSR's like Belarus,Latvia,Chechnya,it's already a forgone conclusion with their puppet governments being quietly controlled by The Kremlin.

I may regret wading into this discussion but it’s my undertaking that Biden is trying to talk the Russians out of invading Ukraine while Trump was only interested in getting dirt on his opponent from Ukraine. Trump actually said that he thought Putin was a nice guy.

Well there will be all kinds of diplomats and athletes etc. in China for the Olympics, seems like a good time to make a move. Russia and the Crimea and the Olympics worked for them. Ukraine and Taiwan at the same time.... not unlikely I guess but both might be bigger fish than they want to fry right now but Putin and Xi Jinping aren't known for their gentle personalities.
