You too Jerry !.
How old do you figure your bird was?
P.S. I think we need a "like" function on this website so you can easily cheer others on.

If you need a like button just click on go advance and hit the

But really would hope "like" is a given for all post provided

Honestly, I have no idea how to age a bird. I have always figured that the brighter red their head the younger they were. The older ones had more white and blue in thier head colours. That being said, I am no turkey expert just my observations from the field. I agree with you, there are plenty of upgrades this app needs to run smoother.

Beard2022first.jpgbeard2022second.jpgspur2022.jpgCWTF2022.jpg
So the boy and I head to the woods to try to put a smack on a couple of Toms we've been watching for a couple of months.....
We're there well before dawn, we get our blind brushed in and wait....Just before dawn a deer wanders by and carries on, didn't wind us or anything so that went well...She had not been gone long and the first gobbles started. Now we knew there were Jakes in there too with the two Toms and a bunch of hens, so we weren't celebrating yet...As dawn broke though, a couple of hens flew down and went into the field edge beside us, no more than 20 feet away, they slowly worked the fields edge up and over the hill behind us....Shortly after they left more hens flew down into the woods and started their days clucking and yelping away, the gobbles continued and we still waited....Eventually we watched all the birds fly down into the woods behind some brush where we couldn't see them, but we could still hear them....This went on for a bit, but eventually settled down, finally the hens started popping out of the woods edge, coming out of some thick stuff where I didn't think they would, but they did anyway.....a bunch of Jakes popped out a little further up the edge and sprinted 20 feet in front and past us to follow where the earlier hens had gone....Finally behind the hens popped the 2 target Toms....puffed up and strutting to beat the band.
We watched them as they moved ever closer, we whispered back and forth our plans to shoot and hopefully bring them both home....
They finally did get into range and the hens went into alert mode and started putting....The jig was soon up.....
We counted down and boom.....We watched one Tom fly away completely unhurt, and the other lay in a heap....The best we can figure, they were coming in side by side and we think last minute the one guy moved in front of the other and we ended up shooting the one bird, both of us.... Not exactly as planned, but sharing a bird with the TurkeyWes is still so awesome.... He claimed it was the bird I was assigned so we are claiming it as TurkeyJohn's and he can use his tag on the next one.....The kid is a gentleman, looking after his dear, old Dad, Love that guy to pieces....
Not the biggest we've ever taken but grateful for another spring to chase these incredible birds, those first gobbles get me every time and if your heart isn't racing when one comes into range, you should hang up the gun.....
Thanks again all, and good luck out there, the first of 4 reports I hope,
Beard had one hair around 10 inches, most of it closer to 9 1/2 inch mark, longest spur was an inch, weighed in at 19.19 lbs....
Looks likem I need to add my tag in, I'll have to get a pic of it, it's still on the leg of the bird that I had cut off....
