So, solo hunt this morning, TurkeyWes was sleeping in.. new farm we just got permission to turkey hunt this year, only 4 years of nicely asking, they let me goose hunt all we want.
Had hunted this guy a few days already and kept going to hens and not to me though he did like my calling..
Sat up on his roost this morning, extra early only one hen decoy and waited… dawn starts breaking, and gobbling, but from the opposite end of the field from the normal roost… Quick move time, pull up stakes and follow a tree line as close as I dare, set back up, and start some soft hen talked, he was still roosted a couple hundred yards away anyway, wasn’t sure the slate call was working so went to the box call and here he comes in behind me…
Set the calls down because he’s moving in and get turned in my seat ready to shoot through the brush…
Let him come to 15 yards and the old 870 barks, bird down, bit of a flop but he’s done…
Nice limb hanger for sure, I think my biggest yet at 22.33 lbs, 10 inch beard and 1 3/8 inch spurs…
Called him Jason since it’s Friday the 13th…
Now to get TurkeyWes on them…

Thanks Guys, TurkeyWes had a swing and a miss yesterday morning....poor guy, bird at 15 feet and I think so close that the shot never expanded and went out like a slug missing the Tom....Thermacells definitely needed these days, mosquitoes and black flies unreal....and the heats getting up, but the good news, I think hens leaving Toms so they may work to calls better...we'll see, still a couple of weeks left...
