Some great entries lately, and quite a heat wave to finish the season with. I hunted a couple places on Saturday, and didn't hear a single gobble. I did call in a curious hen, who came in to under 3 yards, and was very confused! She was staring right at me, clucking, head bobbing, just knew something wasn't right. Pretty cool encounter, but unfortunately she didn't pull a big silent tom along with her.
Here's the final numbers:
All Entries
1 Articcat 48
2 TurkeyJohn 47.5
3 Markster 46.5
4 Jerryklimczuk 42
5 TurkeyJohn 40
6 sabmgb 39.75
7 CD94 36.75
8 Lenny 21
9 TurkeyWes 20.5
10 Deer Hunter 15
11 Articcat 11.25
Two Bird Totals:
1 TurkeyJohn 87.5
2 articcat 59.25
So Articcat is our big bird winner this year - highest single score and longest spurs.
TurkeyJohn is our two bird winner, and tied on the longest spurs (and just missed on the single score by half an inch...)
Markster wins the longest beard award for 2022 - seems appropriate based on his picture!
Thanks to everyone who entered, and congratulations to our winners!
Articcat and Markster, please send me your mailing address so I can get your prizes out.
Until next spring..........
PS - Here are some fun stats - we had a 46% success rate this year, and waaay fewer contestants than other years:
2019 - 42 Contestants, 16 entered at least 1 bird, 5 entered 2 birds
2020 - 45 Contestants, 20 entered at least 1 bird, 7 entered 2 birds
2021 - 39 Contestants, 11 entered at least 1 bird, 8 entered 2 birds
2022 - 24 Contestants, 11 entered at least 1 bird, 2 entered 2 birds

Congrats to everyone who bagged a bird, and for everyone else, there's always next year....I was 7 years before I bagged my first turkey, so I feel the pain.... TurkeyWes almost had some nice birds, couple swings and misses, but that's hunting....Thanks for doing this derby again, a whole lot of fun to see how everyone is doing across the province....

Again thank you lenny for running this contest. This was the worst year I have ever seen since I started 14 years ago. I have had years where I have had up to 10 shooters in range, last year I had 6 shootable birds in range. This year I took the only shootable bird I saw. I have talked to some others that say the same thing, that they saw fewer shooters this year.

I didn't get out as much as I wanted to, didn't get a bird with spurs, didn't get a second bird, but it was still a great season.
The big gobbler on my home farm gave me the slip again, second year in a row, and checking my trail cams shows him hanging out, strutting and cruising around the last week of the season and last week![IMG]
[/IMG] Hope he makes it to next year!
Hens with chicks on the camera as well, great to see.
