4 bladed broadheads
I am always wondering ,does it makes sense to have 4 blades on a broadhead.
My reasoning is
more blades = more chance to get hang up on rib bone-or catch the shoulder blade
more blades=wedge effect may prevent passing between 2 ribs
more blades =more resistance=less penetration.
I know many swear by them-this is not a challenge thread, just seeking input.
Thank You for your opinion.

my go to Broadhead is a 4 bladed Slick trick
I've shot both Griztricks and Vipertricks they both fly extremely well and are one of the only broadheads (reasonably priced) that are actually sharp out of the package
I've shot deer, moose and bears with them with no issues at all and great blood trails

Your reasoning would bring up the question of why not go to 2 blades then?
I don't know the answer, the only time I have seen 2 blade broadheads is for traditional archery, so what you write makes sense. For modern fast bows I doubt 2, 3 or 4 would really run into too many issues.

Don’t you think 3 blade cuts way for 3 fletchings ?

The more the blades the less the applied force per cutting edge, all else being equal.

If you have a fast bow or crossbow then pretty much any broadhead, mechanical or fixed, will work. Kinda hard not to get a passthrough when you're pushing 80+lbs of KE. However with low poundage bows or traditional archery you're just asking for trouble with a 4lb BH, especially considering most of them don't have a good blade angle.

personally I think 2 blade single bevel is the best choice. Speed and arrow weight will overcome the disadvantages of 3 and 4 blade broadheads most of the time, but you will definitely get more penetration with a 2 blade, which can be very important on marginal shots where you hit bone or on larger animals.

At an auction,I've found a package of 4-blade broad heads that have been assembled using Gillette razor blades cut in half and trimmed to fit. Obviously, they were made long before I entered the archery hunting domain. They're wicked sharp, but, weigh less than 90 grs. I don't know what kind they are. Do any of our more seasoned archery hunters who've been into the sport longer than I remember these things?
