    Default Moose Hunt 18A

Does anyone have any good or bad comments to bow hunt in 18A. Road/trail access to swamps/lakes, type of bush etc.
    Thanks

A big chunk of the unit is not accessible by road… but there are lots of roads. The unit can be accessed by 4-5 road networks: old CN bed east of Nakina, several roads north and northwest of Nakina, Kinghorn Road, Auden Road, and the Jackfish road east of Armstrong.

The unit is swampier on the eastern and northern sides. Lots of black spruce inter mixed with polar mixedwood on the higher ground.

As with any unit, the hard part is finding a good spot that isn’t overrun with hunters. You’ll probably chase your tale during your first year. Being a northern unit, it’s far to get there for many hunters - especially the western end where you have to drive 100 kms of gravel road just to get into the unit.

There’s no shortage of water in the unit and I would recommend that you bring a square stern canoe and motor.

This is the subject where our own MNRF report could provide some help.

It could help the observant hunter to try to make a reasonable good decision where to spend the time and money and passion for chasing moose.
