    Default 2022 Doe tag quotas

The normal practice in Ontario is to not publish the current yearís quotas in the hunting regs summary as the MNR doesnít have all the data when the booklets are produced. Im not sure how long they have been posting the numbers online, but I just happened to notice this yearís quotas.

I did a bit of research and noticed that for WMU 10, the quotas for the past few years were as follows: 2019 & 2020=1600, 2021=800, 2022=650. When I started hunting there about 40 years ago, the unit had the highest hunter success rate in the province of well over 50%! For many years, our group consistently tagged out on bucks. Itís been many years since that happened. Now tagging 3 deer is a feat. Itís not all bad though, we still have lots of fun and we donít hunt as hard as when we were younger.

Heaven forbid the bureaucracy be easy to navigate.

Usually the quotas are available online before the deadline for applying for a doe tag. A quick Google search brings them up. They were available in time this year. I check the quotas and decide where to apply based on them, since I have spots to hunt in different WMUs, and the number of tags available is usually less than the number of hunters applying in these WMUs.
