    Default Sam's now a retriever

Well I took my Samantha hunting again this early goose season. She will be 3 at the end of the year and this was her third try at hunting. Each year we have taken her and she was gun shy so we would let her run around while setting up, After the first shot I would take her back to the truck, then let her run around while putting things away. This year was different. She laid beside the layout blind, the first flock landed short and took 10min or so to walk into range. I fired twice and got to geese, one in the decoys and one that coasted way out and started to run the other way. Sam broke at the shots, but went after the goose in the decoys and was sparing with it as it was standing. I got up and walked over to them and told Sam to go get the other one that was like 200yds out and running. She took off after it, I looked around to make sure nothing else was coming, looked back and she is coming back with the goose in her mouth. She had to drop it once to get a new hold on it but brought it right to hand. We were so proud of her. She proceeded to bring 4 more back that were long ways out. We also did some dove hunting and she was just as amazing there in bringing them back to hand. I have some work to do to get her to hold on the shot, but that shouldn't take much. At least she stayed down until the shot and she also would lay down on command it we were out getting a bird and more came in. She has always been a great tracker of deer but now I can say she is a true lab and retrieves.
