The old TC Omegas put two more bucks into our freezer again this year. The food plots I seeded with winter wheat and chicory really drew the deer this year. We had at least five bucks on our 150acre property. I got a yearling buck at 9am on opening morning. No visible tracks or blood trail after I shot him so after a 40 minute search I went back to the house to wake Bubba, my snoring Black Pig Dog. It took the black pot-licker less than five minutes to track the deer and find him. He had gone a good 200yds with a double lung shot. My wife saw does and fawns every sit, then finally had a buck show up on Friday morning. Perfect shot to the heart and it only ran 70 yds. The damn chick once again shot the bigger deer. It was her 27th deer. It was one of the bigger yearlings we've shot. It would have been a real smasher of a buck had it avoided our freezer until it was four or five. Had two meals of venison heart and a meal of fresh tenderloin with squash and potatoes from our garden. Made a reduction with red wine, olive oil, rosemary, salt , pepper, and wild grape jelly. Tonight we're having tenderloin venison wellington in puff pastry with portabello mushrooms and brown sauce. Time to start butchering tomorrow. Perfect hanging weather. Good luck to everyone still sitting. Should be a beauties week with this tease of colder weather. I would think the rut will start this week and things will get silly.
I was blessed with an archery 8 point buck on Nov 02nd.
Then last week our group M/L hunt tagged out on Monday with 2 bucks and 3 doe. Freezer is topped up again and that's all she wrote for my 2022 season. Already had an amazing smoked back-strap meal to die for...
