Dog problems

For the last few weeks my year old golden has been having consistent soft stools. I use a high quality food brand (Loyall), just switched him from puppy to adult but that didn’t work. Wondering if he needs a dewormer he had one in the early summer, but he spends all day outside so he may have picked up more. Wondering if anyone has any experience with these kind of issues?

There are lots of reasons for young dogs to get the squirts. If it’s only been a short while, I’d try giving him some pumpkin. I used the canned stuff that has no other additives. That usually tightened things up. If it persists, I’d be calling my vet….

Did you switch him too quickly? Should start out with 3:1 when changing dog food for at least 3 days , but I do it for a week. Changing too quickly will definitely upset a dog's system.

I did phase him in to adult food, but he had this problem before I switched will pick up some pumpkin today, if that doesn’t work I’ll give the vet a ring.

The Vet will help but it sounds to me like the dog is not tolerating an ingredient in the food, you may have to experiment to determine what works. In my experience grains like wheat and corn have caused the problems, oats are an exception and seem to be tolerated. As Sharon said, phase in the new food slowly.

For stomach fussy dogs I had my best luck with a raw diet, its a PIA last resort but for some dogs it makes a big difference.

For what it’s worth my GSP had a similar issue

I switched to a low ingredient dog food and that sorted things out.

Make up a pot of sticky rice or basmati but don't rinse it beforehand as you want it starchy. Put a bit in each meal and that should tighten him up. What about his water and/or bowl(s) ? My indoor bowls are washed once a week but the outside bowl is clean every morning when I put it out because I don't want strange animals or bugs contaminating it. Sometimes it's a plant they chew on that may cause issues ?

My alapaha bull dog was having loose stool for a while and we had to switch him off chicken food. He's on GO! brand turkey with grains and haven't had an issue since .
