So having been on here for the past 15 years or so maybe looking back at history might bring some clarity on how to make the FORUM LIVELY AGAIN. Here are some of the threads that created interest that I started but gives a good snap shot of what things used to be:
(1) Gaming the system Replies 89 Views 26,479 Hunting Section.
(2) Closed Thread Suggestion Replies 1 Views 18,589 Suggestion Section
(3) Mayor Tory calls for tighter gun controls Replies 209 Views 54,651 Hunting Section.
(4) Finally some common sense gun control Replies 67 Views 3,407 Off Topic Section.

Forums are a dying medium, unfortunately. Facebook is very quickly taking over the space, and forums with a dedicated phone app (like Reddit) are filling the rest of the void.
With Facebook I can be a member of a variety of groups within seconds. Posting pictures is as easy as a couple buttom pushes on the phone. That last point cannot be understated. No forum is as easy to use on a tablet or phone as Facebook and quite frankly, they have the money (and built-in userbase) to ensure they will always be better and more efficient then a forum.

All true, except FB is jammed full of fake news, left wing political trolls, spam and scams galore. God forbid,we post anything firearm or hunting related. FB will shut you down in a heartbeat.

I guess there are rules to follow at Facebook as well. It's getting tough to find places with no rules.

"Rules for thee, but, not for me" reigns supreme when the owners of the forum are ultra leftist Liberals.

Forums are not immune to trolls, fake news, and spam, and scams. Including this forum.
And I have no idea what youre talking about with regards to Facebook shutting down gun and hunting discussion. Im a member of several gun and hunting groups on Facebook. They operate just fine and have the exact same discussions as take place here.

Personally I would like to see more contests amongst ourselves similar to what some have put together re the turkey hunt every spring. Ice fishing for example, largest perch, largest lake trout, largest spec, crappy. Picture of fish on the ice with length measurement. No weight required, just length. I'm sure that if OOD would were to approach companies like Shimano, Berkly etc. they would donate prises... Just a thought here boyz...

To me what puts off many is the trend to insert politics into just too many threads.
Political comments should be left in a political section but left out of most sections relating to what we mostly come here for and that is discussions about hunting and fishing related topics.

The difficulty in posting pics is a huge drawback with oodmag.com. Being able to two-click post a video or picture of what you did on the weekend is a great way of sharing. Have there been any thought given to just moving the OODMAG forum over to a FB group? There are a couple of Ontario based hunting groups I belong to on there and it works pretty good. One thing that makes FB work better is that people are supposed to be using real names. For some reason, that takes a lot of the edginess in posts that we see here on OODMAG where most use aliases.

Maybe I’m alone in saying this, but I prefer this forum because it’s not on Facebook.
