Single Shot Rifle Users
I'm curious if anyone here shoots a single shot hunting or target rifle. If so, what calibre?

I deer and moose hunted for many years with a Ruger #1A in .270 Winchester. Beautiful rifle that was very handy in the bush but not without its quirks. I also briefly owned a Browning Low Wall in .223 that I used for varmints. It was stunningly beautiful but an acquaintance fell in love with it and made an offer I couldn't refuse.

I had a Winchester 1885 low wall .22 for a few months. Found it tedious to load one, shoot one on the range. When using .22 I just want to fling lead and enjoy my semi's more. Gorgeous gun though.

.243 H&R, nice to carry, it's usually in my truck every where I go, I don't live in the city...lol

I used to hunt coyote with a heavy barrel H&R .243 also. Nice looking rifle, laminate stock. It was accurate and I quick to reload with a butt stock cartridge carrier. It was muzzle heavy and a bit awkward to sling carry, so I moved it on, but I never worried about second shot follow ups etc. I’d hunt with one again if I found one that I liked the feel of! Same reason I moved on my Winchester 70 heavy barrel .223.

have never owned one, but I might as well because if I don't hit what I'm shooting with the first shot, I'm pretty much just wasting money, at least with a rifle.

I've got 2 T/C encore's one blued with wood stock and .50 cal black powder, .257 roberts and .223 barrels and stainless with composite stock and ss .50 cal. and .243 barrels. Have used all of the barrels a lot and reload for all the centrefire loads, have shot deer with all exept .223 which I only use for coyotes and groundhogs (when they still existed) I like simplicity of single shots and are great stand guns where you only need 1 shot and can usually wait for the best shot.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst!

Has too much time on their hands
I've owned and shot several, but never hunted with them; Ruger Number 1 in .257 Roberts and .30-30; Win 1885 in .30-06 and .38-55, and a Savage 219 in .30-30. All were accurate, but my favourite aesthetically, is the 1885. Accuracy was excellent in all rifles, but I had a hard time getting the Ruger in .30-30 to perform.
If I could find one, I'd LOVE to have an 1885 in .30-30 or .257 Roberts, but I've never heard of one in Roberts, and the .30-30's that Browning made in the 1990's are very expensive collectors' items, as well as being very heavy.
