    Default 13 week deer season?

So the well heeled have managed to get themselves and guests a 13 week deer season when the rest of us get two weeks?

Despite objections by other hunting groups to Ontario’s environmental registry last November this amendment to the regulation gets passed, but when pressed for reasons why the Government officials do not have much to say.

The rational for the extended season is that deer overpopulation may cause damage to the
environment of the deer and essentially they eat themselves out of house and home.

That same argument could probably be made for any lands near a deer yarding area.

All that being set aside, how does it sit with you that some folks get to hunt deer for two weeks and others get 13 weeks?

Most Ontarians get two weeks to hunt deer. These elites get 13 | The Narwhal

IMHO, at $50k membership fees they will manage the herd. We get the same Oct 01 start date, just with bows not guns.

no different than the upland game farms rules and regulations really
I don't begrudge anyone's ability to afford the finer things (sometimes I wish I could join in)
realistically if the Ontario government doesn't allow for the specialized rules the clientele sill just go elsewhere that does and that business will just close

If it were on main land it would be a problem, but sense it’s on a private island it’s really no different than a high fence farm. An over harvest in a winter yard area would effect hunters and the herd for miles around. An over harvest there, would only make them loose money and it would be easy for there deer herd to bounce back because they likely have no natural predators on an island like that and it’s easier to control harvest when you know exactly how many deer are being shot.

“The MNRF also pointed out that sections of northern Ontario have similar rifle deer hunting seasons due to their higher-than-average deer populations and lower human populations.”Quote

    Ya, ok…..lol!
I thought they were trying to exterminate the Deer population in fringe area so Moose can move in and get out of the areas where the MNRF wants the Woodland Caribou to move in??? Or something along those lines. lol

I just want to know if that Buck on the picture is on those islands.

If it were on the main land they only get one week to hunt. Just wondering when they already had an ELEVEN WEEK season why they now need 13 weeks.

The last I looked, the Deer season started Oct 1 and ran until Dec 31,all with archery except the first 2 weeks of November for rifles and shotguns and a separate week in December for black powder. I don't see what the issue is with a private club that's governed by esentially, the same rules as the rest of the province. What am I missing except for the fact that members are well connected and well off financially?

If all the active members on here were to chip in a few hundred to a thousand dollars I could afford to join. I might need to ask you all to help with dues to.

It's basically a highly modified closed micro eco-system. Basically the Ontario version of canned high fence hunting. Instead of wires and posts the fence is water.

Who really cares. Pay to play - have at it. Not my thing but if you have the coin and want to do things that way than there will always be those wiling to do it. If that what floats your boat than carry on - it's a free country in theory - at least for the rich. As long as the mangers and biologists make it sustainable (and i'm sure they are on retainer to make it work) than shoot away.

I'd be more proud of a button buck taken in the big woods than anything you could possibly shoot at a place like that. Smacks of old money and entitled snobs to me. Bet you not a one of the members is first gen rich. First gen rich tend be decent folk who appreciate hard work as that's what it took to get them where they are. I have many first gen rich clients who will get right down in the $%#^ with me to hold a wrench if that's what needs doing. Places like that are 3rd or 4th gen rich people who have lost all touch with reality. For what it's worth that is just my opinion. Comes from being an immigrant kid who did alright in this great country of ours. I sweated and still sweat for all my $$$ but make enough of them that when i chose too i can travel in those stupid elite social circles and fit in but marvel at the idiocy.

That extra 2 weeks will bring in enough to push for a longer a season lol.
