"We question the need to extend the deer seasons further on the privately-owned islands of WMUs 83B and 83C. In general, the OFAH does not support the preferential allocation of hunting opportunities based on land ownership, except for farmer and landowner-controlled hunt validations due to the specific nature of the controlled deer hunt program. The proposed season extensions on these islands would make these the most liberal deer hunting seasons in Southern Ontario and offer extensive opportunity as a result of land ownership. This runs counter to the spirit of deer management in Ontario, and North America in general. These concerns are compounded by the general lack of readily available information on the deer populations and resulting management challenges on these islands. Without extensive additional information about the situation on these islands, the OFAH is currently not in a position to support this drastic season expansion."

Big thanks to the OFAH for at least trying.

Despite objections by other hunting groups to Ontario’s environmental registry last November this amendment to the regulation gets passed, but when pressed for reasons why the Government officials do not have much to say.

The rational for the extended season is that deer overpopulation may cause damage to the
environment of the deer and essentially they eat themselves out of house and home.

That same argument could probably be made for any lands near a deer yarding area.

All that being set aside, how does it sit with you that some folks get to hunt deer for two weeks and others get 13 weeks?

I just wish they would move the muzzling season up prior to the November deer season. It can sometime get darn cold for charging up a muzzle loader in that first week of December.

I sure get where you're coming from with this. Thanks for posting. The comments from the OFAH members re-inforces my belief that the "public consultation" phase of these supposed ERO's are nothing, but, smoke and mirrors. There's a very long history of them being completely ignored. The other hunting "club" I'm aware of is called The Syndicate, primarily and exclusively for waterfowl hunting on the east shore of Lake Scugog's east arm south of Caesarea. It's wholly owned by a consortium of Bay Street law corporate executives. It's been in existence for almost a century,is extremely well run and rigidly holds to all federal and provincial regulations without lobbying for "special treatment" of any kind. During the off season, they allow their flooded lake front areas to be used for fishing, but, once waterfowl season starts, they enforce trespassing regulations equally as rigid. That type of organization I can get solidly behind. These two hunt "clubs" in 83B & C should fall under the "high fence" ban in this province and be immediately discontinued. I have ZERO respect for people who participate in "canned" hunts.

How come there's a handicap parking space in front of the liquor store?

Why does it matter? It has no effect on the natural deer herd in Ontario. No different then someone Fishing in there private farm pond for bass in the winter. I have no problem with it. Just my 0.0002

With the longer season, do they have more than 1 tag? I don't see the point of the long season without additional tags...

From the information I gleaned from this very informative link they appear not to have additional tags.

What has this thread turned into? Something that needs to be locked or deleted? If only a few of you are slapping each other, take it to PM. You reaally don't need the audience.

If this thread is able to move on the merits of specific regulations for unique situations so be it. If neither side can show a bit of empathy for the other than it will be post holed.
