13 week deer season?

It's basically a highly modified closed micro eco-system. Basically the Ontario version of canned high fence hunting. Instead of wires and posts the fence is water.

Who really cares. Pay to play - have at it. Not my thing but if you have the coin and want to do things that way than there will always be those wiling to do it. If that what floats your boat than carry on - it's a free country in theory - at least for the rich. As long as the mangers and biologists make it sustainable (and i'm sure they are on retainer to make it work) than shoot away.

I'd be more proud of a button buck taken in the big woods than anything you could possibly shoot at a place like that. Smacks of old money and entitled snobs to me. Bet you not a one of the members is first gen rich. First gen rich tend be decent folk who appreciate hard work as that's what it took to get them where they are. I have many first gen rich clients who will get right down in the $%#^ with me to hold a wrench if that's what needs doing. Places like that are 3rd or 4th gen rich people who have lost all touch with reality. For what it's worth that is just my opinion. Comes from being an immigrant kid who did alright in this great country of ours. I sweated and still sweat for all my $$$ but make enough of them that when i chose too i can travel in those stupid elite social circles and fit in but marvel at the idiocy.

Interesting take on the money folks but I can tell you that my wife worked for the Granite Club here in Toronto many years ago. She dealt with the members there and always told me you can tell old money from new money. The old money folks were polite and laid back and understanding, in other words they had manners. Very nice to deal with.

The new money folks that had just made their cash were rude and in your face, demanding attention and discounts and treating staff badly, in other words entitled.

The last I looked,the Deer season started Oct 1 and ran until Dec 31,all with archery except the first 2 weeks of November for rifles and shotguns and a separate week in December for black powder. I don't see what the issue is with a private club that's governed by esentially,the same rules as the rest of the province. What am I missing except for the fact that members are well connected and well off financially?

I saw that,too,but,considering the source,I'll assume they screwed up the reporting......as usual.

There are about 60 members of the Griffith Island Club. They get a limited number of hunting days each season. Pheasant hunting is the primary activity and not all members hunt deer. There is no natural predation of the deer population and left unchecked it would quickly expand to unsustainable levels. The extended season in these circumstances is simply good herd management.

I do not think they screwed up and the source is one on MANY who printed the exact same information, I can give you as many links as you would like.

I guess a good clue is to read what the summary of the regulations actually says which is "WMUs 82C, 83B, 83C and 93C have unique deer seasons and administration. Please contact the local MNRF work centre for more information.

If that is the case why to they need an extended season?

Could the fact that they have a full time game keeper not be the reason why they have no natural predation?

If you want to explain then to me that its an island and has no predation, I would wonder why predators have not found there way across the ice on any given winter considering its a rich hunting ground.

The island has been a separate WMU for decades. Perhaps you should contact your MPP if you are concerned about MNRF policy regarding Griffith Island.

I think all hunters should be concerned and voice their opinions on hunting matters. I have been reading some of my fellow hunters comments on the changes before they were made, it seems they fell on deaf ears.
