Anglers and Hunters Bear Hunting Show Today.
Hate to be to critical about the show on Bear Hunting today but if they are going to feature a new hunter being mentored by her father, at the end of the show in the bear retrieval
process, the new hunter has her orange hat momentarily off at one stage and she has a camo backpack covering her hunter orange.
Not a real big deal but this is featured on national wide television so I think they need to make sure they get this stuff right and this was not edited properly IMHO.

You're right,it's not an offense,so,no big deal.
How come there's a handicap parking space in front of the liquor store?

I am pretty sure a person must wear hunter orange which covers the head and the back cannot be obstructed by a back pack as you do not have the required 400sq inches.

There's no regulation that says you must have it glued to you, either. Simply taking off one's hat or vest for a few moments for whatever sensible reason certainly isn't an offense.

Nowhere in the coverage did anybody "simply take off their vest for a few moments, a hat yes. If you see the coverage you will be able to give a more informed opinion.
Yes if you do not have the 400sq inches of coverage for the vest area because its hidden by a back pack that would be an offence. Pretty sure if my memory serves me well this was actually a ASK A CO QUESTION at one time.

yes you need the minimum 400 inches, but there is no issue with wearing a backpack, other than if it puts you less than that 400 inches. Most hats and vests are well over the min requirements, so I doubt it was an issue.

So I looked up this question and answer for you in the old ASK A CO files.
Here is the answer to that question and of course the original question posted.
"Q: It is my understanding that hunters cannot wear a backpack over a blaze orange vest because doing so covers the back. In recent years, however, manufacturers have been making fanny or waist packs with shoulder straps for added support. Can that strap go over top of blaze orange, or must it be worn underneath?

A: The required hunter-orange garment must be visible from all sides. The backpack or waist pack can be worn outside the hunter-orange garment, but if a backpack or waist pack completely obscures the orange garment from being visible on one side, then the wearer must incorporate some hunter orange into the pack cover (or use a smaller pack that doesn’t completely cover the hunter-orange garment). This could be a blaze orange flap, or some other cover that is hunter orange.

So from what I saw on the show the back pack carried by the beginner hunter did cover some of her back so was not fully visible, hard to say if within 400sq inches. However the point of the thread is that I think this segment could have been edited a bit more carefully, I know in the excitement of wanting to see the harvested bear these things do happen.

Guess this is the episode?
Would agree that you're being a bit over critical. The hat removal was done to remove the face mask and than put back on. The pack doesn't fully cover the orange so not an issue in my opinion. In any case they were in the process of recovering a dead animal so rules around hunting really doesn't apply. I would say they portrayed an actual reality hunt, and I don't think it was meant as legal advice.
