Perfect shooting distance if the season had been open. Know what you mean about close encounters - had 2 in about 1.5 hours this spring and one ended up in the freezer, filling my tag for season. Was not my plan as there is a biggun in the area that i was after.

I think it's time to start hunting this guy. He's very comfortable in daylight it seems and he looks to be the perfect size.Screenshot_20230919-083417_SPYPOINT.jpg

First 2 hunts ended with no sighting, both evenings I got pictures 20-30 minutes after I left the stand. The wind was perfect so I guess they just plain out smarted me.

Keep at it. Sooner or later they will show during legal.

Looking good.
I will be hunting in the Muskoka district in a few weeks. So far no hits on the bait. Just a matter of time!

I'm starting to think they must hear us show up to camp, even though we made sure not to run quads or even light a fire until after the hunt Friday night. It's roughly 1/2km to either stand from the camp. I might try a morning sit next week because I did have a few AM pictures in daylight Saturday.

We are also in Muskoka, do you always hunt them that late? We found last year they just disappeared from our spot by about Thanksgiving.

Last year one of the other guys got his Bear mid-October in Muskoka.
Our first bear showed up on the bait yesterday and he looks like a dandy. I hope he sticks around. My first sit will be on Friday Oct 13th. Hope it's a lucky Friday the 13th!

Well, good luck!
I haven't had a picture since I refilled the bait mid morning Sunday before we left. I'm hoping that's not the end for us. Either way, I learn more every time I'm up there through cameras and by hunting.

Thought you guys might like these pictures, not on the baits but on a food plot we started. Only a tiny bear hitting one bait and evidence of trespassers on motorized vehicles this week so might explain the lack of action.Screenshot_20231001_184328.jpgScreenshot_20231001_184354.jpg
