Default brdy squirrel hunt so far this year

[COLOR=#000000]Well since I'm tagged out for deer locally thought be good day for squirrel hunt. lots of squirrels around this morning but most wanted to run or they were in tree tops and jumping from branch to branch which makes for a real hard shot. I got 4 but ran out of shells so couldn't get the last one and of course after I ran out of shells and walking through bush i had a couple that would have been perfect shots. Oh well, was a lot more work without Sam to help.

Do you have a good recipe for squirrel? I started hunting them a few years ago and so far my best was just pan frying them

I mostly pan fry, but have had them in stew, which is really good, I just don't like picking the bones out of the stew.

I've had them both ways - chicken fried, and stewed. I had not parboiled them before frying, so they were quite tough - although still tasty.

What you can do if you stew them is to first stew just the squirrels with your onions, garlic, herbs and spices. After they become tender, remove the squirrels from the stew, and let them cool. Then, debone and return the meat to the pot. Add in your carrots and potatoes, and simmer until they done. Now, this last step may be untraditional for North America, so omit it if you don't like the idea: but you can also add in sauerkraut and some of it's liquid. Simmer it as well for a little while longer and there ya go!

On a different topic, a buddy gave me some ground moose meat from a moose he harvested (with a bow! I found that pretty impressive). It cooked up into a delicious chili.

    Cheers,
    Neil

Well I parboiled the 4 today, really busy day so just let them drain while I did my stuff. Got home inteent on frying a couple for lunch. I ate 1.5 right out of the collider cold, it was really good that way.

went out again today and got the 3 I saw. but would only have retrieved 1 without the dog, she was amazing at chasing 2 of them down that hit the ground and ran into some really thick brush that I couldn't even see them. I'm going to parboil these, debone and put back into the water they were boiled in and add veggies to make a stew with them, i like NEILSELDEN idea of deboning after parboiled.

well I made the stew today and put the 3 deboned squirrels in. Good but don't taste the squirrel, maybe I put to much tomato paste in or other spices.
