This angler's compelling story is a reminder how quickly things can go wrong in the outdoors, and how to be better prepared in future.

What can I but enumerate old themes,
First that sea-rider Oisin led by the nose
Through three enchanted islands, allegorical dreams,
Vain gaiety, vain battle, vain repose,
Themes of the embittered heart, or so it seems.

Had a few close calls myself. One this past February:

Another in the fall of 2021 when i broke my leg while out solo off-grid bow hunting in the Fall of 2021. Have a trip report on that incident somewhere but can't seem to put my hands on it. Long story short - it all worked out and i self rescued but not without its moments.

At the end of the day though i have no intention of stopping or slowing down my solo off-grid adventures.
The wilderness is not a stadium where I satisfy my ambition to achieve, it is the cathedral where I worship.
