Swing and a miss
All quiet on the turkey front, did not hear 1 gobble but birds on the cam so confidence is high. Friday evening stand up to stretch and head back and lo and behold off goes a tom 50 yards away into the shrubberies not to be seen again.
Saturday morning giving clucks every 15 minutes or so, and get surprised by a big guy in the cedars, coming in slowly in stealth mode. Have the shotty up for a few minutes with no head in sight, and the heart is breaking ribs it is pounding so hard. I see the head poke out at 25 yards between 2 cedars, a hole about 4" wide and decide to take the shot. Big bang, bark flying off both trees the head was bracketed in and that feathered bullet is going mach 4 through the woods never to be seen again. Searched for over an hour and found 1 broken chest feather 100 yards away that might have been him but no blood, no sign at all. No idea what happened, he should have been toast.
Off for walleye opener this weekend but I aint done yet.

that suck, but sounds like you still had a great hunt. I never missed a bird until last year and it was heart breaking but I still had a great hunt. sighted in my gun this year and making sure my yardage is less than 35 yards as the pattern is not great after that.
good luck on the walley and your next turkey hunt, send us some pics of both

Everyone misses at some type of game at some point, most important thing is taking the time to focus on any shot, thinking back at my misses it was always a rushed that I didn't think I was rushing at the time of the shot, if that makes sense.

I missed the last mature Tom I had in front of me last year. I have a new red dot now so that shouldn't happen again... lol
