Default Huge Turkey Shot in WMU 84 - 27.2 Pounds

I took a couple of my friends out Turkey hunting this morning. One ( Steve) was by himself in a blind on a fence line where we have been seeing Tom’s strutting. I was with another hunter ( Kristen) in the field west and below the Steve.
Foggy and very quiet, no gobbling at all. Around 7:00 we hear a hen calling from behind us. I call back to her a couple of times and then we hear a gobble! A few minutes later we hear a hen calling near the fence line blind.

Now here is where it gets strange! The story according to the Steve:

The hen goes past the fence line decoys but the Tom heads right to the Avian X Jake and starts beating on it. Steve pulls the trigger and nothing! He then took the safety on and off, nothing. He cycles through the shells, nothing. He grabs another shell and puts it in his gun. The whole time this is going on the Tom is beating the decoy, knocking the fan out of the holder.
Steve finally gets off a shot and the bird does a flip and lands on its back. All of a sudden the Tom gets up and starts walking towards us. Steve grabs a couple of shells and follows the bird 100 yards and stops when he sees that it’s heading for us.

We see this Tom coming straight for our Jake decoy. He is making some funny sounds but wants to fight our Jake decoy. I tell Kristen to get his gun in position and then tell him to shoot. The Tom drops on the ground right beside the decoys.
We then see Steve coming towards us and he tells us his story. Pretty incredible. Even more incredible is Steve telling Kristen that it’s his Turkey because he knows Kristen can only hunt today and tomorrow.
Steve has a gun camera and later we look at it to see what happened. It looks like Steve shot high and only part of the shot hit the Tom.

This is the heaviest bird I have seen in person. 27.2 lbs, 10 inch beard, 1 3/16” spurs. Scored 70.95!
This is why I love taking out people Turkey hunting. You never know what can happen!

WOW ! Big bird ! Gotta love a story with action and suspense in it. LoL ! Was Steve using a Semi ? Some are prone to not cocking properly if the action doesn't slam shut. Kirsten killed it but nice to hear of a true act of sportsmanship from Steve . Well done everyone !
