    Default Heat Wave

We have been having some pretty hot temperatures for a week or so - usually in the low 90s during the day and high 60s at night - all you hear from the people is how hot it is - everyone seeking the air condition - I tell my kids that people don't know how good they have it - when I grew up there was no air condition - you just lived with the heat - it was normal - didn't have refrigerators either - just an ice box - you got a large chunk of ice once or twice a week delivered by the ice man

As kids we always liked when the ice man came around because we would get a small piece of ice to suck on - that was a real treat - before I went into the Army I worked for a demolition company tearing down old factories - worked 6 days a week and 10 hours a day in this kind of heat - we sweated so much that we had to take salt bills during the day - then at night we just kept drinking fluids - man that was hard work - it was dangerous too -

I often wonder how people would get along if some disaster happened and the power was out for months - probably more than half of the population would die -

And in those days all cars were painted black - in the summer the hood would get so hot you could fry an egg on it - no AC - well just wanted to let you know how things were - those were the good old days - I guess - well maybe not in all respects -

Good post Joe. I can't find the like button, but I too waited for the ice man as a kid.

I didn’t mind sweating when I was younger. We had the salt pills too but we took it easier when it was hot. Stop by the lake to cool off. Cold drinks and ice cream.
I don’t have to work in the heat anymore so I choose not to.
I just paid $1700. To get my ac fixed on my car. Comfort is good.

I grew up without air conditioning also, we used to open the house at night and then close windows in the morning and run some fans to blow cool air from the basement. These days people act like not having AC is the end of the world.

dont get me wrong, I enjoy it at night for sleeping but it wouldn’t turn my world upside down if I didn’t have it

Those are the ones cry the most about the "man made "climate change(like AC are not a major -and greatly avoidable, contributors to global warming).....then they complain(holding the non avoidable "plastic water bottle thingy" in their hand)about the changing climate once more

Always said the choice between heat and cold is an easy one. You can move around or dress to stay warm, but the heat will kill you dressed or naked. As well slowly burning to death would be excrutiatingly painful but freezing to death you just go numb and fall asleep.
