Dog regulations around coyotes
I hear people say that using decoy dogs isn't legal in Ontario for coyotes but I can't seem to find anything pertaining to this in the regulations. Can someone direct me to the actual regulation stating it please?

Please define what you mean with "decoy dogs". I've never heard of that.

While calling the dog runs out, engaging with the coyotes and luring them back towards the gunner.

Sounds like someone is confusing dog fighting prohibitions as opposed to any hunting regulations. Think the use of lure dogs is something to new to have any regulations yet. Interesting to hear what the MNR has to say. Maybe sending a clarification to them might provide the best answer.

would think if the dog is licensed to hunt and is trained to decoy coyotes it would be legal ,,,, we had chase hounds and sometimes the coyotes would turn tables and run them out of the bush .

About 10 years ago I was at a training course in Texas. A guy there was from one of the mid west states. He got over a hundred coyotes a year this way. I had never heard of that before. He would sit on the side of a hill and the dog would go run in the valleys, when coyote picked the dog up it would run back to the guy. Was a very productive way to hunt I guess.

The animal rights dummies would go frickin' ballistic. Look at the poop storm they raised over the hunting dog training sites. Somehow,I can't see the government buying into the concept. Then, again, stranger things have happened. It never hurts to ask and all they can say is no.

I don't see how it's any different from using hounds to run em

Only seen this on you tube. It looks like the hunter actually takes the game. Shows nice teamwork between the hunter and dogs.

Just my opinion on the difference. The hounds would trail coyotes, possibly over thousands of acres. The decoy dogs and hunters are operating in a site specific area.
