My fishing buddy and I had the most Epic day of walleye fishing ever in a Northern Lake last June - Kipawa Quebec
We caught 9 consecutive walleye that were all over 27" in about 45 minutes - the longest was 33'' and the heaviest was a 32" with a huge girth.
We were jigging for lake trout near a steep shoreline in about 60 fow, with big white tube jigs, not getting any bites, so I fired a long cast towards shore and the first of the walleye hit it on the drop - a 27" er.
So we moved in closer to shore - my tube jig was torn up from the walleye - so I switched rods to one already rigged with may favorite walleye searchbait - a 5" Paddle Tail Cabelas GO TO Swim minnow on a 3/8oz VMC Sleek Jig .
First cast with it along the shoreline - another Big walleye a 28" - we continued along the shoreline for about 50 yards in 30fow casting towards the shore and caught one giant after another for 45 minutes or so - 9 in all.
Then the bite ended - we went up and down the shoreline for another hour or so but never had another bite.
The school moved on I guess.
We were at the right place at the right time - and the walleye gods were smiling on us.
I have only ever caught Big walleye consecutively like this in Bay of Quinte - I have caught Big Walleye - over 27" - in northern lakes before but always usually a one here or there mixed in with more normal sized walleye.
We lucked out and ran into a big school of all Big walleye - all the fish from a couple of year classes swimming together or maybe the same year class, just males and females ? 4 at 27", one at 28", 2 at 29" , one at 32" one at 33"
I wonder sometimes ,how many giants were swimming together that day - we caught 9 of ???IMG_4240.jpgIMG_4235.jpg
It’s nice when you get onto them when they’re on a feeding frenzy especially fish that size. It’s what memories are made of. Nice to see you got some photos of them.
