Has anyone heard any news about a proposed bear hunt this spring? Any info. On the matter would be appreciated.

There will be a limited hunt in certain WMU's around Timmins, Sudbury, and the Soo for residents only. I don't have the exact units off hand.

There is conflicting information about who can participate, the press releases make it sound like as long as you are an Ontario resident you can take part, some local articles make it sound like you must be a resident of the municipality taking part.
Sudbury, Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie, and North Bay all opted in, Thunder bay was the other but I am not sure what their decision was.
n mid-November, Ontario’s Minister of Natural Resources, David Orazietti, announced a two-year bear management pilot program in wildlife management units 13, 14, 29, 30, 36, 39, 41 and 42, all of which have reported high levels of nuisance bear activity.

The spring bear hunt is for ontario residents only, and you can only shoot boars or females without cubs. The MNR has listed the WMU's that the hunt is allowed in. Check turkey hunters post for WMU's.

What is any different in the fall? Anyone who shoots a bear with cubs is pathetic.

Step 2 is coming up !
Ontario's Environmental Registry will be open on this topic for residents to give feed back and thoughts on the topic.
Every hunter should be ready for this,,, the anti's sure will. Nothing in the registry as of today.

OK, that's an opinion. But keep in mind that spring cub is now a legal bear in the fall. Whether one takes it or not is their choice.
