Spring Coverdog Trials
For all that are interested the spring dates for grouse and woodcock trials in Gladwin Michigan are below.
The MI Amateur FT Club will have a hunting dog event where judgement ceases at the flush. They are still deciding whether to run the event on a single course (planted birds) or continuous course (multiple courses on wild birds).
As these events get closer I will post more information for those that are interested.
April 4,5,6 MI Amateur FT Club,
April 12,13 Ruffed Grouse FT C,
April 14-17 Lake States FT C,
April 18-20 Beaverton Grouse Dog Club,
April 26,27 National Brittany Open Grouse Ch,

These are walking trials right? Not horseback events? The early hunting Dog event might be fun, where is it run?

Yes these are all walking events. They are held near Gladwin Michigan, about 3 hours from the crossing in Sarnia.

For anyone coming to Michigan I would suggest coming to some of the earlier trials so that you can get out and do some training. Between April 17th and July 7th you can not train on wild birds in Michigan.

Bump.
The Amateur Club has decided to go with continuous/multiple courses on wild birds for the hunting dog/gundog event. This makes it the premier Hunting dog/gundog event in Michigan. I am not aware of any other place that holds an event like this on wild birds.
Hopefully this winter breaks soon and the snow will be gone for the start of the trials.
