2014 Fishing annual

Hey All,

Just wanted to see if anyone had any feedback about the Ontario OUT OF DOORS 2014 fishing annual. Thoughts? Anything you liked/didn't like or would want to see different?

Everyone in this forum is our target audience so we like to know what YOU want to read...and what you don't.

What he said....is it time to change the name from "Ontario Out of Doors" to "Going out on the lake for first timers"?

The people who pay money to subscribe to an outdooor magazine are invested enough in their hobby that they know basic information. It's not 1986 anymore and we all have the internet. Finding basic info is easy if you can operate a keyboard and google. I love OOD, I love keeping up do date on reg changes, OFAHs actions, legal stuff etc. But the actual how to/where to/when to in the magazine leaves a lot to be desired.

For example, the article on 10 surprising steelhead baits was great but read like a list with very little info on what size/colour/style/technique to choose for what circumstance. It read more like "if drifting row bags isn't working, try a bass crank."

Better would have been: "if drifting roe bags isnt working and you're in 3-4 ft of water and that water is crystal clear and above 55 degrees F (12 degrees C) try a shallow diving bass crank in a subdued pattern like craw and use a slow stop and go retrieve because the fish's metabolism is high and that makes them spooky to big bright flashy lures so small, subdued and slow is the way to go. Conversly if the water is higher and dirtier and colder, use a larger, flashier, deeperer diving crank with an aggressive jerk/pause retrieve for lower metabolism fish. Make sure to cast straight across or slightly downstream to minimize slack line. Always start at the upstream end of the holding water you are fishing and systematically work your way downstream to cover all the holding water. Try to look at it as a grid. Etc, etc so on and so forth."

Please make your articles longer and with more detail; we subscribers deserve that. I don't want "intro to fishing (or hunting for that matter)" I want "the fish and game aren't cooperating, so here's a technique for a given situation and an explanation of why its used."

I always enjoy a good read, and I like my OOD magazines, they do get read from cover to cover. I am buying more reloading, guns, and survival outdoor mags since becoming a hunter again. Still a good mag and the hunting tips this year were good for me as a new hunter. I say keep up the good work, but I can see hunterdave point for me in a year or two.

Yeah what hunterdave said is right...sometime theres a good article but the rest of the time is some obvious stuff that most of us already know.
