As far as what to do with my Garmin I am sure it will find a use somewhere.

It's too bad Snowwalker I almost thought about helping you find a spot to hunt since we don't live that far apart and you were on this site whining about no spots to hunt, no time, bad job etc but I will be too busy putting my Garmin somewhere.
I was not really thinking of where you could put anything, more of where you could "legally" use it. Just figured a suggestion of going to the US to use it legally use might seem rude to you. I am sorry you missed the Sarcasm, even when I put a "SARCASM" smiley in the Sentence.

If you take the time to think about it we BOTH got the shaft. IC moved Business users into the 220Mhz Amateur band and took away Spectrum from us, to give you and the MURS frequencies. I lost spectrum, and you and the MURS got nothing.
Take the warning labels off. Darwin will solve the problem.

"There is an alternative. The Sportdog Tek 1.0 is made in two versions, one that is legal in Canada and one that is made for the US market. The newer 2.0 model coming out in September will be an international model, compatible with rules on both sides of the border. "

Yes , according to what I am told but can't say yes for sure;haven't seen anything official. I'll check it out.

edited: A decision won't be made until next year as the new product isn't out until this Fall.( 9 ounce limit in AFTCA)

Weight is only part of it it still must be on the list. People I have talked to say that the sportdog tek system is not even close to being as good as the Garmin.

The nitty gritty is just don't link it up to the Garmin website for updating within Canada. If you have someone in the USA you can ship it to if needed that would be a good solution. I'm sorry but the security these provide when running a dog in new grounds trumps the obscure possibility of the Feds handing me a fine. I have alot of money in my Astro 320 and don't plan on buying another one.
I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

Not sure about it, but I was with the understanding that the update stops the collar from working based on its location, not where the update was done. If you update it in the US and return to Canada, it won't work here.

Ah ha. That makes sense. OK then, no software updates. Hopefully it doesn't crash and need to be reinstalled.

They really are out to screw us aren't they? With this and the looming ban on e-collars which I have no doubt is around the corner in Ontario given our "activist" government.

A couple of guys that run hounds around here use the "Garmins"
    Question;
    Is the update necessary?
Will the collars still work without the update ?

If no to the question # 1 , just carry on and use the collars as you always have, I have yet to here of anyone being charged for using them, and have also checked around and asked members of volunteer fire dept.'s and not one of them have any complaints about any radio interference.
The only interference we get is with our own VHF radios on one particular channel, we get a clicking sound every 5 seconds as that particular collar is transmitting, no big deal, we just switch to the next channel and interference is solved.

What to do about question # 2 if the collars will not work without the update ?
