Well good luck cause lots of people run Garmin equipment now in Canada we were told that they would be approved for use Summer 2014 after the five year waiting period and now they changed their minds.

In a nutshell, industry Canada knew about this five years ago, sat on it and did nothing for five years and now says there is no need for it. There should be some heads rolling at industry Canada over this. Plain and simple - bums not doing there jobs. These are the guys that give the public service a bad name and are the guys whose jobs could be cut and no one would notice....email sent to Mr. Harper on suggestions for his next round of cuts...

Just got word that if you have updated your Garmin system it will be recognized as operating in an unapproved country and the satellite system will shut your collar down permanently.
Do not update your system on line for any reason if you intend to continue using it in Canada.
Time to start a letter writing campaign to our MP's.
The conservatives support comes from rural ridings where all the dog/hunting community resides.
Get on them to keep this technology available.

Yes I have read about the online update/sabotage from Garmin and will make sure to not log on within Canada. Damned shame really and I'm sure many people have found this out the hard way and now own an expensive and mostly useless tool.
Iím suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

Here is a link to the radio frequencies in Ontario. https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?stid=109

You can look up all the frequencies, then you can test the theory, " that the Garmin's, may interfere with with thousands of other users". I'm sure many of the rural volunteer fire departments have hunters that have tracking systems or hunt with members that do.
In Renfrew county all the potentials are rural volunteer fire dispatch. Also Arnprior Parks and Recreation, and we don't chase many yotes around the arena or the pool in town.

Not sure which way you are leaning on this. You saying Little or No potential, or there is potential? The site also does not list business use, or NGO's.

If you are looking at one county and only finding one or two Government users so you think there would be no problems.
That is like saying that because no one is using Marine VHF radios in the middle of downtown Regina, people across Canada could use them like CB's.

The problem is that Current users are paying for the Freqs. Many can not afford to replace all of the equipment, or have decided NOT to move to new Freqs.

How about I put it this way. The local EMS/FIRE/POLICE(if you have a local force) have decided to move to new Freqs. Every piece of equipment has to be replaced. That is a cost that can run in to the Hundreds of Thousands, if not Millions of Dollars. Now I ask WHO pays for it? How much of an increase in your "CITY" taxes, plus County taxes can you take. If the city upgrades EMS/FIRE/POLICE for as little as 3 Million over five years and you have a smaller population that is going to be a big increase just for the city/town taxes.

They also said they were going to step up enforcement on Interlopers in the ham bands...Not too much happening there.
They told us there was going to be help with city/town bylaws that are prohibiting us from using Antenna supports of any kind.
    Still not much help.

Do you know which Frequencies it uses? You just pick Channel A,B,C, D, or E right. You use A your buddy uses C and the two of you can each track you dogs right?

By the way if you don't know the US version uses these Frequencies: 151,820 MHz, 151,880 MHz, 151,940 MHz, 154,570 MHz, 154,600 MHz. Many Units in other Countries are only allowed to one or maybe two frequencies, and you not only have to buy the collars but you have to apply for a SPECIAL license, and pay to use them. I am not sure but it could be a yearly cost.

Personally I could give a suggestion for what to you could do with the collars but it could be rude.

By the way IC took Frequencies from the Amateur 220MHZ band to try and make room for the MURS radios and your collar in the 150.05 - 156.4875MHz Mobile service band. The Amateur 220Mhz band is used to control remote equipment that could explain why I would make a rude suggestion.

Hey I played by the rules I didn't buy a Garmin unit until May 2014 because I figured that they have taken the time made a plan that was clearly laid out with a time frame that started in 2009.
As far as what to do with my Garmin I am sure it will find a use somewhere.

It's too bad Snowwalker I almost thought about helping you find a spot to hunt since we don't live that far apart and you were on this site whining about no spots to hunt, no time, bad job etc but I will be too busy putting my Garmin somewhere.
