Never understood why people want loud machines anywhere. For me it's the same thing as if they were to run down the street screaming "Look at me! Look at me!" but to each their own. The thing that really irks me is when they take them from the road or the track and ride them on the trails or the lake. When I'm out enjoying the outdoors the last thing I want is to hear one of these machines go by. Doesn't help that those out on them feel the need to rev the engine every 3 seconds....
I find it totally self absorbed. Anyone else?

Depends on the situation. I have aftermarket pipes on my street bike. Vance and Hines cruisers. They have a number of benefits. 1: increased hp. 2: look great. 3. They are louder. I agree. They are not insanely loud but you can hear me coming and that proves to be their biggest advantage. I want you to know I'm there. If you can't see me. BTF you're gonna hear me and Yes it brings awareness of my presence.

If most of us were to drive our cars, trucks, SUV's around town at the noise level of many bikes on the road we'd be pulled over in a heart beat for excessive noise, there should be a db limit, if you exceed it, park it till its fixed, on and off road.

Absolutely! What a bunch of over compensating jokers. Be it trucks, sleds or quads..... mufflers were invented for a reason. There was one kid always driving his Honda weed whacker around town, he would shift the five speed eight times to go one block. I have no issue with a big engine having a bit of snarl but so many go overboard.

Lack of common courtesy and the lights probably aren't too bright either. Something like the idiot around here with 8" stove pipes through the truck bed.

I don't agree. I have road bikes for yrs and having loud pipes doesn't help you stay safe. The majority of the noise is behind you where you have been. Being bright and being aware will save you before your rumble. I wish the cops would crack down an charge some of these bikes that are just way excessive with there muffle mods.

At this point I have little problem with a Harley etc. on the hwy/ street, although sometimes they go overboard. I can see the advantage of hearing a bike coming when on the road, my main issue is when they are off road. Also was not aware that that louder pipes = more Hp. (not a motor guy)

I'd love to see CO's able to give out infractions for Db issues.

Not particularly, but that's aside from the point it's all about the time and the place.
