Default Another German in the house!

Four weeks ago we added another birddog to the family. I went with a DD this time around. He is meant to be my "succession plan" for my current 8 1/2 year old GWP "Kaiser". Meet "Carbon"...

He is a schwartzshimmel from Vom Nobel Spirit kennels in London ON. I am pleased with him. He is showing all the signs of being a good birddog so far. He has seen birds (cotournix quail) which he found by nose and briefly pointed, been in the water, and is going through all his socialization and housebreaking. Kaiser at first was none too pleased...

Now they are getting along fine and the old boy is keeping his obnoxious puppy behaviour in check. Gun intro probably fairly soon...then some field work this fall.

He will do his VJP in the Spring, so I want to get him as much exposure as I can before the snow shuts everything down.

Great looking pup. I love the black color phase. Quite a few bearded dogs where I hunt, nice working dogs. My plan is also to bring in a pup when mine gets to be 8-9 years old so its started and useful by the time mine gets up there age wise.

I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

You are so lucky! Great looking pup and so lucky to have such an experienced owner.

DILLY , I envy you ! Your KAISER resembles my last German-Wirehaired-Pointer (BUDDY) . --- Unfortunately we had to bury him in Florida . I've been visiting his grave many times and sat beside him (reminiscing) . My current PAL (Schnauzer) will soon be 16 and is in his last "throws" . I am already dreading that day . --- Since you are a "dog-man" yourself you probably understand . --- I'd love to get another pup but it simply wouldn't be fair (to the pooch) because of my age (almost 78) . The dog would "outlive" me and my kids and grand-kids aren't really "dog-persons" . --- Just looking at your puppy gives me a "heart-ache" . --- You'll never have a more honestly unselfish friend in your life . --- Congratulations !!! --------------------------------------- It "sucks" to get old !

Thanks for all the kind words folks. I have never had two dogs at once and so far, it's been good. I think the little dog is more confident with the old guy around. The old dog seems rejuvenated around the pup too. Win win!
