What if a grouse landed at the range? Would that not be a place where you could legally shoot your restricted and also hunt because there is no restriction on hunting for small game with a handgun?
You can dream

Clever, but see page 23 of the hunting regs summary... "You may use semi-automatic or repeating firearms for hunting in Ontario, but not handguns that are restricted or prohibited firearms or fully automatic firearms."

Dang, that is true, I forgot that part. I remember when they used to say you could not use a pistol or a revolver but they had to change it because pellet guns are considered guns and are not restricted or prohibited.

But I think the summary of the regs is only stating that, so hunters will also comply with the handgun restrictions relating to the other acts that control the use and possession of them. Trappers were able to carry handguns for dispatching animals for years (and may still be able to)
