Just for the record, Arctic Cat makes it's own engines based on Suzuki designs on all plants over 500cc. Everything below 500cc are still Suzuki engines.
To the OP. I was in the same boat as you about 2 years ago. Most quads that were a few years old, and not beat up were still selling for $3000-$3500.
I did a LOT of shopping, and for the money, and incentives, I couldn't beat Arctic Cat's new price on the 400 4x4.
Light, nimble. Plenty of power around the cottage. You're requirements sounded exactly like what I was after. Now 2 years in, I have no regrets.

Weight has been the only complaint I've heard of. I've driven an 850 Outlander and was surprised of its mass. Google tells me the CanAm weighs 100lbs more than the Yamaha when comparing the Outlander to the Grizzly.

I have a 300 4X4 Honda 1996, since new. Been an amazing bike for me, has never left me stranded, only reg maintenance. I just don't know if they are made to last 20 years any more, any make.

I'm importing a few of these. Keeping one for myself. Lots of parts available. Google kei trucks or mini truck. 5 speed 4x4 with axel lock.
Good idea of what they are capable of - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-MO5cipULo
A great ATV alternative.
PM me if your interested.

My buddy has a 2012 can am and last year his power steering stopped working. He took it back to the dealership and it cost him nearly $2000.00 to have it fixed. After researching he found out he wasn't the only one with this problem.

...and that right there is one of the reasons why I bought a "bare bones" ATV, from Arctic Cat. Carbureted, non EPS, very few things that can go wrong. Plus when I bought mine, it was $5K plus tax.

Sorry but Arctic Cat has almost no Suzuki engines in its lineup anymore.
The 443 (which is sometimes listed has a 400/450or500) is built by Kymco. And so is the 700 that is found in the Wildcat Trail.
Nothing bad with that Kymco is one of the top engine builders. It has built engines for BMW and Yamaha in the past.

Ah, sorry, yes. It was Kymco, and they were the same engine as the Yamaha, my mistake.
I also found it funny that my 400, is actually a 366, and my buddy who just bought a new AC 500, actually has the 443 in it. ( seems to me that calling it a 450 like Yamaha did would be more honest).
