Default Toronto police E-T-F members shoot bear

Killed without provocation...racially profiled just because he was big, black and scary..ohh and a bear.

Toronto police are on a bear hunt in the north of Scarborough.

Officers began tweeting out reports of a 300-pound bear sighted in the Tapscott Road and Finch Avenue East area at 10:30 p.m.

Police are warning the public to stay away from the area and not to approach the animal. Officers are currently searching the area.

The Toronto Zoo, which is located less than four kilometres from where the animal is alleged to have been seen, told police they are not missing any bears.
Toronto police shot and killed a bear as it roamed through a residential area of the city late Friday night.

A 42 Division spokesman said Emergency Task Force members were deployed to a neighbourhood in northeast Toronto after multiple bear sightings were reported.

The police official said the animal, which according to unconfirmed eyewitness reports was an adult black bear, was rummaging through backyards, and at one point banged on the door of a residence.

He said E-T-F officers shot the bear (in the Middlefield and McCowan Road area) after animal control officials advised police that they were not equipped to deal with the potentially dangerous situation.

There were no reports of any people or pets being injured.

Police had no immediate information about where the bear came from, its gender, or whether a post-mortem examination would be performed to try to determine if it was suffering from any abnormalities.

The police were in a catch 22 position, "Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don't " if they had just ignored it and someone got hurt even by their own stupidity, people would have complained. So to avoid any mishaps with the bear , they killed it, and someone will still complain.

Default Toronto police "fatally shot bear" in Scarborough

Here we go again, if a hunter does that they write "kill".
    MNRF again" not available"
Police have "no access to tranquilizer gun"
How long must this be going on before changes are made?

Why is every bear in the GTA so quickly labelled "rogue" and unceremoniously SHOT. I guess all the northern communities have friendly bears. Why isn't the Bear Wise Program tried in the GTA? I think they wrote it but it only applies to others.
