Fox Squirrels?
Reading the regs, apparently we have these things in Ontario but looking at range maps they seem only found on Pelee Island. Anywone ever got one and are they common else where in Ontario?

As you said they are found on Pelee however they are protected there.I haven't seen them anywhere else in Ontario.Doesn't mean they are not here. They Are in Michigan and Ohio, they could be found in Essex.I've hunted them in several states. They are delicious, not unlike our own gray squirrel but bigger.

I have seen them on Pelee Island as well. Slightly larger than a gray, and with a nice orangish tail.
My great grandfather used to hunt them in Michigan.

Has too much time on their hands
They were introduced to Pelee Island and British Columbia in 1892.

Theyre around Essex and Chatham- Kent as well but tend to be melanistic. A black color phase. But you'll see the orange bellies and sometimes orange tail as well. Bigger with a slower, more relaxed cadence to their chatter.

They seem to be in a color phase in my area. Black with rusty orange bellies. They have a slower, more laid back chatter than the Eastern Greys, too.
