Default Valens Lake ice update for January 28, 2018

The ice is in great condition, about 12" out there, really slick after all the rain yesterday. Main species in the lake are pike, black crappie, perch and bluegill. February 17 we will be holding our annual ice fishing derby, click on the link for more information. http://conservationhamilton.ca/event...fishing-derby/

Average depth in the winter is six to eight feet, in the summer its about four feet deeper once we raise the water levels.

First time today. Wouldn't do it again. Not sure what happened to the lake. Fished there 13-14 years ago big weed beds, numerous bluegill. Now flat mud bottom, no structure no fish. Occasional Crappie I guess, not a fish marked in numerous locations over 4 hrs, maybe some carp on the bottom. Good fundraiser I guess?
