I use something like this (Canadian Tire has a version). The mesh shoulders provide plenty of mobility for fishing and paddling. I dont know how it would work for swimming though.

The jackets are warmer to wear as they keep your back covered especially on cooler spring or fall trips whenn wind or air temps are low.
Inflatables are cooler and more comfortable but would be just about impossible to put on in an emergency such as uncerimoniously tipping in front of a crowd of other anglers.

Agreed. I wear a PFD for work every single day of the open water season. Much prefer the vest style on the cool fall days before I go to a full on floater suit. Its also why I dont buy the "I cant fish in a PFD excuse". I work in one, you can swing a fishing rod.

I also wear one fishing on my own time (see my avatar). My father and grandfather set the example early in my life and it stuck.

So I went and bought this Jacket today it never went on sale but next week is the long weekend but since I paid for it with Canadian Tire money it didn't really cost me any cash.

What do you do with old life Jackets I'm guessing since they absorb water and the two adults are 30 years old and the kids is 10 years old there are not much good. So can they be recycled or use for anything or just toss them.

But I just admitted to knowing they were 30 year old on here.

My mother inlaw was pretty OK anyways.

My old used life jackets always seem to end up being used for padding under the o/b in the box of the truck. I don't know why but a new life jacket looks new for the duration of one whole fishing trip.
