The 'additional seals' were added because of the decline in a successful fall cull....the traditional hunts weren't bringing the numbers down. Largely due to lower hunter numbers, lower success rates of hunters and milder weather not reducing the herds.....when was the last time we had a foot of snow down the first week of Nov ? ..used to be common.

We have had some really long winters since, remember a few years back, you could have been sledding late into April.
Growing up in SW Ontario, there were so few winter kills due to all the feed around, that all caught up to them not all that long ago, a higher population than the carrying capacity and 2 really bad winters in a row twice in 10 years.

They also stopped winter feeding in the yards. Up our way that has had a very noticeable effect.
I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.
