    Default Moose Hunt results

How did you guys do on the moose hunt?
We hunted 21a with 2 bull tags and 1 cow tag. It was cold all week with very little moose sign. A lot of groups were going home mid-week. On the Thursday we ended up getting a cow. Overall it was another great trip.

Our Moose Hunt in WMU 22 was the same , very cold ,windy , flurries , rain .... also , heavy rain September , all the shoreline underwater and unable to see tracks . Although , we had tags , the bulls had already mated and the calls didn't bring any responses .
The late opening , Oct 13th does not help much !!! Here on our lake the Rut is alive end of September till second week of October . We did see and spot sign further away and up the ridges !!!
We also had a great time in Camp and look forward to next year !!!

Because this is the 5th year of being unsuccessful in the adult tag draw (WMU50),our crew has decided to abandon the southern Ontario hunt. Enough is enough. Just for something to do,I went to the camp last Sunday to make sure it was ready for the Deer hunt. I cut a Cow and calf track first thing while unloading my ATV for the trip in from our drop off point before first light which was promising (calf tag only). After getting into the camp and making a pot of coffee and some breakfast,I hopped on the ATV and went for a tour into my favorite watch. On the way up the trail on foot,a big Bull and Cow were standing in a swamp just below me. Had I had a tag, there would have been meat on the pole. Frustrating for sure. Later in the afternoon,I spoke with members of two neighboring camps who reported having the same thing happen to them, too. With these sightings,it's difficult to understand the OMNRF rationale for tag reductions and scheduling changes to this extent. We're all beginning to think there's a concerted effort to deliberately obstruct the southern Ontario Moose hunt without impacting the revenue source from license sales. Something just isn't quite jiving with "official" explanations. I'm not buyin' it.

Our group had a bull tag for WMU 39. We saw some decent sign but didn't see any animals. The weather was decent. It only really rained on one of the 7 days we were there and the temperature was around 8 degrees most days and just above freezing over night. It was a great week in the bush. My 85 year old great uncle made the trip, as he has each of the last 3 years. He just stays around camp and looks for grouse nearby with his .22 but his smile is always ear to ear. This might have been the last year he makes the trip, but I'm glad he's been able to keep going to his ripe age.

Our group in WMU 49 had dwindled down to (2) this year from (10) last year due to the wonderful tag system and of course they took a nice calf. They saw a bull, cow and calf during there three day hunt plus lots of sign. As trimmer said, where is the rationale...…….plain and simple there isn't any!

They have to have a place where they can live trap them and move them to areas that have been depleted of their existing herd... Are you buying into that explanation...

Only 2 tags were up for garbs this year in all of 42. We're not moose hunters, but see them all the time. Don't understand it either.

Our group was successful, we had 2 bull tags and filled one.

Also in WMU49. Our hunter numbers have dwindled but we still have enough that we do a hunt. We didnt start until Sunday afternoon but since then weve seen 7 bulls and 3 cows. No calves of course.
