Polar and grizzly bears have been mating across the circumpolar Arctic for thousands of years, says University of Alberta bear biologist Andrew Derocher.

Couple years ago I was hunting in N BC, sneaking along an old logging road. I walked up within 20 yds of a big griz that thankfully had a full belly ! The guys I was hunting with from out there damn near crapped their drawers when I told them.
From then on it wasn’t much fun hunting with my head on a swivel, knowing we weren’t the top predators there!

I can't find it at the moment,but,I read in a biology report that evidence exists that Grizzly Bears are migrating eastward into northern Manitoba and Ontario. There's supposedly ample anecdotal and biological evidence that Griz are interbreeding with Polar Bears in NWT and Nunavut. Climate change is driving strange things to happen.

SW Ontario was part of their historical range, things are going back to what they once were.

What I have read , it said they ranged as far as the western shores of Hudson Bay.

There are certainly grizzly bears on the western shores of Hudson Bay. I was hunting caribou there about 2003 when an american hunter in our camp shot what he thought was a black bear outside camp. It was a grizzly, and there were charges laid as a result.

I have a friend who was stationed at Churchill with the RCMP. They didn't go anywhere without a heavy rifle. Their service weapon wouldn't come close to being useful against a Polar or Griz. He said Blackies had quite the attitude,also.
