I have to replace my handheld gps and looking for suggestions before buying a new one. I had a Garmin which I really liked but open to other manufacturers .I want one that I can use for hunting as well as
fishing that marks waypoints and routes on land and water. Thanks

I would stick with a Garmin. I have a 64s with Ontario Backroads map chip. It works very well and battery life is good.

Personally I would stick with Garmin, they seem to have the market covered. I use and older Garmin 76cx and can add micro chips as needed. I've also got an ancient Lowrance 212, put them side by side and they show the same basic info within a couple feet. Both also have 12v power cable if the batteries die.

At work we all use Garmin GPSMAP78. Affordable and works great. Waterproof and it floats.

I'd go with the garmin 64 as well. I haven't tried others other than a first-generation Magellan.

I'm another 64s user, good little unit, you can google free topo maps for it. It does all the things you listed.

Thanks guys for your suggestions. I think I will go with the 64s. It is $120 cheaper at Sail over Cabela"s.

I'd you have a smart phone why would you by another GPS?
    Just use your phone.
Just as good as a dedicated GPS. And contrary to popular opinion YOU DO NOT NEED CELL service for it to work.
Get an app like Locus or OSMAND

Not really any other options aside from a Lowrance model that I had many years ago, they've all been Garmins.
