Remember that snowshoe are part of the jack family and they can run. Without dogs, and just bumping them them, I have had them stop 10 yards to see what woke them up. But with dogs, they will run them hard. The nice thing is they do what jacks do. Where they get up they will come right back. Also, southern hares May feel the hunting pressure from both humans and predators a lot more than up north. Just like southern grouse. I walked right up to a northern grouse this fall. where I hunt in the south they explode like rockets! I guess you can almost say that genetically the animals in the south were born with instinct to run!
