Good too hear. I resisted the urge this morning. Was hoping to get some warm dry days as I find those are the days the birds are most jumpy. Really puts the dogs to the test.

Really don't get too excited till the grackles show up but them redwings are a good sign birds are moving up.
Next couple of weeks should be fun.
Okay , you did it. LOL Lots of snow this morning . Woodcock at the outskirts of London too.

Didn't want to add to their stress today. Likely huddled up trying to keep warm with little to eat. I'll give them a pass til the snow melts.

Had the GSP out for another run this morning, woodcock are stacked right now in the London area. Bird dog handlers north of the London area are in for a treat in the next couple days. Enjoy.

Had a bit of time this morning and got Stella out for a bit of a run. Good flight came in as in marginal habitat the girl found 10 birds. Seems they just blew in as not much splash on the ground.
Got some video of one trying to do its best grouse impression.
Its a bit blair witchy format but hey its what we love eh?
It'll be posted later tonight as got to have the kid upload it to utube before I can post it here.

Looks like things are winding down here. Had the dogs out and found half as many as last time out. More importantly had one do 3 short hops in front of Nova and although happy how steady he held in the light of such temptation it did raise a yellow flag on the play. Over the years only found 1 nest around here and I didn't go check to confirm but that bird sure acted if it was on a nest. Cut the rest of the walk short after that and bid them well till the fall. On a side note looks like the local conservation group did a heck of a job destroying a lot of good woodcock habitat really don't know what they were thinking as a lot of finger habitat cleared to the ground

So one of the benefits of a drawn out spring is a trickle of woodcock still pushing through. Ran Nova in the more open hydro corridor has enough shrubbery stands in the open fields to hold a few transient birds. Managed to find 6 before Nova cut a front pad on something. Cleaned, bandaged, and in kennel rest thinks he's out for the last of the migration.
