For whatever reason a lot of people gloss over buying used guns.

    Dont.
Used guns in odd calibers and you win, used guns in popular calibers you better know what you want and what the value is.

My note was move cautionary than anything, I have bought 3 new guns in total, 2 of which were muzzle loaders as I do not trust people to clean guns properly.

Lately, I prefer the look and feel of wood. When I come across a "for sale" posting for a firearm with wood and blued steel, it gets my attention much more than one with a synthetic stock. That being said, like others have pointed out, synthetics stocks definitely have their advantages. I have several rifles with wood and a few with synthetic stocks. The ones with synthetic stocks get used more often for hunting.

My head knows the benefits of synthetic but my heart just doesn't care. I only use cork fishing rods as well.

I had a beautiful Sauer 80 wood stock. Got rid of it because I couldn’t bring myself to take it hunting. I have no problem taking any of my 3 Sako’s A7. I still have a nice wood Verney Caron and a few others that make it out when conditions are good.

Wood and blued barrels are my preference. I can't fully explain why, but I think they are more traditional - which I also associate with hunting.

    My sentiments exactly!
Plastic stocked guns remind me more of kids toys.
