    Default Gun Ban Ruled Out!

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    April 12, 2019
Gun Ban Ruled Out – For Now
OSHAWA, ON – Crime Reduction Minister Bill Blair’s long-awaited engagement report – [COLReducing Violent Crime: A Dialogue on Handguns and Assault-Style Firearms –[COLOR=#000000] has been released and the outcome of that discourse is somewhat encouraging for Canada’s two-million-plus lawful firearm owners who feared a possible gun ban.

“Those 134,917 participants in the government's online questionnaire overwhelmingly believe that a ban on handguns and so-called “assault-style” firearms targets the wrong people. Law-abiding firearm owners are not the problem, violent criminals possessing illicit guns are,” said Tony Bernardo, Executive Director of the Canadian Shooting Sports Association. “Our organization is not surprised by this conclusion and we said as much during the Minister’s in-person roundtable held in Toronto last fall."

CSSA representatives attended the Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal consultations.

At that roundtable, the CSSA also noted that there is no statistical evidence that the banning of civilian firearms would have an impact on the criminal misuse of guns. The only data that was available came from the Toronto Police Service, and it showed that politicians had been grossly misrepresenting the proportion of firearms that originated from our community.

“We agree that a multi-faceted approach (such as more community-based programs, enhanced law enforcement and border services, and harsher punishments and penalties for gun-related crime) is key if we are to reduce the illicit use of firearms. Imposing a gun ban ‘in isolation’ as the Minister noted, is useless,” said Mr. Bernardo.

“Our organization would welcome the opportunity to confer with Ministers Goodale and Blair and the Firearms Advisory Committee to help develop some real solutions to these serious firearm issues,” said Mr. Bernardo. The CSSA was a long-standing member of the federal government’s Canadian Firearms Advisory Committee, the purpose of which, among other things, is to provide the Public Safety Minister with advice on matters relating to Canada’s firearms policies, laws and regulations.

The Engagement Report will now be used to assist the federal government in developing any future changes it may wish to apply to firearm laws… “while not impeding the lawful use of firearms by Canadians,” as stated in the report.

"While it appears there will be no gun ban in our immediate future, the CSSA will continue its efforts to ensure the government of Canada understands and respects our Canadian firearm traditions and the rights of responsible Canadians to have lawful access to their firearms.

The report does not actually rule anything out, but I think Tony is right. The likelihood that the Liberals will promise a ban looks pretty remote right now.

I think it's too late to try to appease gun owners, now. They'll never un-ring that bell. The Liberals have sunk into a really dark hole and they're digging themselves deeper every day. Even the media is abandoning them like rats jumping a sinking ship.

I din't think the Liberals are trying to appease anyone with this report. A ban was unlikely from the get go and this is just confirming that.

Well,I'm not sure that if Liberals thought they could get away with it,they would have done it in a heartbeat. From the first time they were elected, there appeared to be a concerted effort to bring in more gun control legislation as quietly as possible through the back door. Even the media tried to keep the subject of gun control under wraps, either,by consequence or in concert. Once found out,I believe they didn't anticipate the horrendous back lash. It's monumentally stupid for The Liberal Party of Canada to think firearm owners and the various watchdogs will ever take their eyes off them. Leopards don't change their spots.

LOL if we get an incident like what occurred in New Zealand recently the Canadian Public will steam roller over the gun lobby in Canada in a heart beat.I would not get to cocky if I were you with your predictions. All it would take is the Liberals and NDP voting together and yur done.

I spent my day today teaching people how to shoot, just one bathroom break from 9-4 today, it was solid, most of the people never held a gun before. I was reminded as we shot the auto-loading rifle that an AR-15 has never been used in a mass shooting in Canada, yet a Winchester model 1894 was used in a terrorist attack.

Are you a hunter? Are you a shooter? Are you a Troll? Just trying to figure out where you sit on all of this, I mean, you are on a hunting forum I would expect that you hunt and most likely use guns for that purpose, are you ok with having those all taken away?

Oh ya, 7 hours of shooting and not one person shot, amazing eh, that big bad rifle did not turn itself around and shoot anyone.

Don't forget that yes a full auto gun was used in a mass shooting in Canada: At 9:45 a.m., Lortie entered the Parliament Building through a side door located on Grande-Allée. He was dressed in combat fatigues and armed with two C-1 submachine guns, an Inglis pistol, a duffel bag containing four hundred rounds of 9mm NATO ammunition,
