Thumbs down Firearms in the media again ...

Goodale suggested that the new policy measures, under consideration since before Christmas, were close to being announced, putting the issue front and centre in the fall federal election.
    ...
Overall homicides, too, are down dramatically from last year.
    ...
Police also provide statistics on shooting “victims” and that number is up this year over last, at 365 compared to 324 at this time last year. But the Toronto police definition of “victim” goes beyond those killed or injured to include those who were “shot at,” allowing for a great degree of variability.

    ...

Asked for her thoughts on how Toronto could be experiencing a surge in the number of shootings, but a decline in gun-related deaths, Cukier, the Coalition for Gun Control president, said that legal gun owners tend to be more effective in killing people because they spend time at target practice, or hunting.

“One of the terrible ironies is that when you see the proliferation of guns often associated with gang violence, you have lots of shootings but fewer people are killed, perhaps because they don’t spend hours and hours at the shooting range,” she said.

uh.... so the law abiding are the problem (for them).... I wonder about what they define as a firearm too... given past it seems paintball and air rifles etc. are included too.... seems like it will be an election issue, I see anti's on Twitter going nuts too so be prepared to be called names by the media, lies and fear mongering like crazy!

It's The Star,so,what else should we expect from the Official Voice of the Liberal Party of Canada? Cukier was quite clearly looking for some dumb thing to say and she found it. The woman is an educated idiot. Ralphie said that "Canadians will have to decide." Damn straight,Ralph. Start packing your desk.

Globe and Mail isn't to be out done too.

Easy to conceal and no legit purpose – why it’s time to ban handguns
Firearms have become Canada’s most common homicide tool.

Well they do seem to have the increase part right ... all while ignoring gangs, smuggling etc. as not being as important as taking the handguns away from the law abiding ....

I wouldn’t be to hard on Wendy Cukier she has a real future with the gun manufacturers south of the line and the marketeers of the illegal gun trade. The way Mayor John Tory has been pushing for a ban on handguns gives one pause to wonder what friends he has south of the border. Less We Forget, there is Jean Chrétien, outstanding legacy the Canadian Firearms Act, which drove a spike into the legal gun trade in T.O. and set the stage for the proliferation of the illegal firearms. Do these people really image they can pass legislation that can haul the illegal trade in handguns? Suppose that were possible, that means our LEOs will be put at considerable risk, I suspect without handguns criminal will turn to the next popular weapon the AR15. The body amour currently used by LEOs does well to stop a handgun round, it’s virtually useless against a high power rifle slug. That, however, is what you get when you have individual that lack a knowledge of firearms pressuring government to make legislation to suppress them.

It's back in the media because there was another 16 shootings in the gta over the long weekend 13 wounded. Again the doctors are sick of it, someone had to say something to say that guns are bad. They will never get it or understand that it is not the way to go. Nor will it even justify that 90 percent of the shootings are from illegal sources anyway. .

Ban the guns to stop 10 percent of of the shootings.

Numbers are probably down because of the Raptors games. They gotta whatch the b games too lol.

When the Liberal confront a problem, the first thing that comes to mine is “more money” will solve it. So they shop around for another excuse to tax the us. I wonder what the excuse will be this time.

Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction Minister Bill Blair said, Thursday he had been asked to study a handgun ban, but suggested there are other "very effective measures" that can be taken to prevent the deadly weapons from getting in the hands of criminals

Blair said more money to stop the flow of guns crossing into Canada from the U.S. — what he called "the greatest arsenal in the world" — along with stricter storage requirements and enhanced tracing for when a gun has been bought legally then stolen or sold illegally, are some of the measures he said could tackle gun violence.

QUESTION: How do you stop handguns from flowing across the border, and halt the activity of straw-men supplying legal guns to criminal? ANSWER: Have the government set up a means to sell legal guns to the criminals cheaper than they can be bought from illegal sources.

Why not, that is what they decided would work in the case of POT.

Sure, and the only trouble with that theory is that by the time all was said and done, the government is charging more money than the drug dealers. Only a whacked out Liberal bureaucrat could think that was a smart thing to do.

I always figured that was likely to happen, the drug dealers would undercut the governments pricing to maintain their market share. Meanwhile their supply network for Pot seems to out perform the government's supply network, so they have the volumes to insure they still can make a respectable profits even if they have to sell at a lower market price. You have to scratch your head in wonder, how the government didn’t see that coming. All they had to do was look at the cigarette market place around community near Reserves.

Last I read the Government has only captured about 25% of the market...selling pot at twice the price isn't working.

The only reason the village idiot pushed for legalization, was to keep his arse from being charged.
