What calibre/ammo combo do you use for black bear.

9.3x62 with a 285 spire point or a 300 grain hollow point from a 450 marlin. Honestly the heavier and slower rounds perform best. I have guided hunters to around 30 bears and would rather see a 30-30 then any magnum. And nothing under .30 cal. Sure smaller calibers can kill bears but my bear last fall taken with the 9.3 was the quickest kill I have witnessed.

Last 6 have been with the 35 Whelen using either 225 grain Accubonds or 250 grain partitions. Recovery varied from bang flop to 12 yards.

Either a .270Win (150gr PSP) or .30-06Sprg (165gr PSP) .....whichever I happen to have with me at the time. I have no problem popping them with a 12ga slug if that's all I've got.
