    Default What type of Salamander/Newt?

    Found this guy lurking around the cabin at deer camp:



    Had a look on line and nothing native to the area quite seems to fit. My guess is a red-spotted eft. If it helps this in the Saugeen Valley between Flesherton and Durham.
    Bring a compass. It's awkward when you have to eat your friends.

    Yup that's a red eft. I've seen many of them over the years but I've never seen the adult newt that is aquatic. Lots of years doing stream studies and lake surveying for MNR but I've yet to see the adult. Neat find!
